"A Modest Proposal" Response

In the article,"A Modest Proposal", Jonathan Swift uses satire to send a message and solve a crisis in Ireland. Jonathan claims that there are too many poor people, sick people, and thieves in his home country. He comes up with an idea to solve this problem and lessen the population so that less thieves are born into this world. His proposal is to sell and eat babies. He begins going into detail on how these babies would be sold and whether they would be better sold alive like pork or dead. In my opinion, this idea is so wrong and many people would probably rebel if this ever became true. He also mentions that at one year old is when the babies would be the tastiest.  Although Jonathan has a point that there would be less thieves coming into this world, it is not normal for humans to become cannibals and eat and sell their own babies. In the article, Jonathan's tone is so serious it almost makes you think that he is a really sick person mentally. I can't imagine a normal human being saying that eating babies would be great for society and help improve the country. Overall, Jonathan was using satire with a serious tone to be more convincing to the audience and readers.
